Prop 47 - Coastal Expansion
Prop 47, also known as the Safe Neighborhoods and Schools Act, aims to reduce prison overcrowding and recidivism by reclassifying certain non-violent offenses from felonies to misdemeanors. This initiative focuses on investing in mental health treatment, drug rehabilitation, and education programs to support at-risk communities, and is funded by the California Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC).
By promoting restorative justice and providing individuals with second chances, Prop 47 seeks to enhance public safety and foster healthier neighborhoods. Under this grant the CRU program has expanded beyond the City of Fort Bragg to the coastal areas of Mendocino County.
Partnership with Mendocino County Sheriff's Office
CRU's expansion of services includes a partnership with the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office to cover the county's coastal areas from Point Arena to Westport. MSCO provides referrals and, when necessary, law enforcement accompaniment to meet with individuals requiring services.
Partnership with Mendocino Coast Hospitality Center
CRU has a formalized agreement with Mendocino Coast Hospitality Center to expand the scope of services offered to residents of Mendocino County by using Prop 47 grant funds to pay for additional outreach and mental health workers, as well as a stabilization bed at the Hospitality House to individuals awaiting a bed at an inpatient substance use treatment facility.
Transitional Housing - Employment Program

Through Prop 47 funding, CRU has purchased 6 transitional housing beds through MCHC to be used for individuals exiting inpatient substance use treatment, incarceration, or a mental health institution. This program closes the gap between institutional settings and mainstream society by providing housing, case management, and employment navigation.

In-Patient Treatment Program
Thanks to Prop 47 funding, the CRU team is able to provide comprehensive support for individuals seeking in-patient treatment. This includes making direct referrals to trusted facilities, coordinating placement based on individual needs, and offering vital wraparound services. With this funding, the CRU team can also provide transportation to treatment centers and temporary housing prior to program entry.

Committee
The purpose of the LAC is to advise on the planning, implementation, oversight, and evaluation of Proposition 47-funded programs. The LAC provides a forum for community engagement, transparency, and accountability in the use of Prop 47 funds
